“Foreigners Law and Citizenship Law” are two separate branches of law. Citizenship is a concept that expresses a person’s allegiance to the state, and citizenship makes the person the owner of certain rights and obligations related to the state to which he/she is affiliated. Citizenship law, on the other hand, is the branch of law that regulates the rules regarding the rights and obligations of persons related to citizenship. The field of citizenship law is primarily regulated by the Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901.
Foreigners’ law is the branch of law that consists of the legislation that a state or country applies to foreign nationals coming to that country. The Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection primarily regulates the law on foreigners.
Our country is a country where more and more foreign citizens live, work or reside, especially due to the current developments in the geography in which it is located in a narrow sense and in the world in a broad sense. The increase in the number of foreigners also means an increase in legal problems related to foreigners. For foreigners, how they can exercise their rights in a country where they are not citizens is a matter of concern. The laws in Turkey aim to protect the rights of foreigners and prevent them being victimized.
One of the most common legal procedures that foreigners face is residence and work permits. In order to obtain a residence permit and work permit, foreigners must fulfill certain conditions. Apart this, foreigners’ interest in real estate in Turkey has increased in recent years. There are some legal procedures that foreigners need to do differently the citizens of the Republic of Turkey when buying real estate. It is also possible for foreigners to obtain citizenship the Republic of Turkey provided that they meet certain conditions.
